Tenerife 2022
-
Day 1 (2022-03-04) Flew from Leipzig, Germany to Tenerife South Airport with Condor (EUR 619.96 round trip). We got a Hyundai i10 from Budget/Avis (EUR 414.13) and drove to our hotel Wyndham Residences Tenerife Golf del Sur (EUR 577.10, 10 nights).
-
Day 2 (2022-03-05) Drove to Buenavista del Norte and hiked to Playa de las Arenas. Visited the Masca gorge and Acantilados de Los Gigantes. Spent the afternoon at Playas de Troya (not the best beach of our journey).
-
Day 3 (2022-03-06) Did a hike through the Barranco del Infierno gorge. It’s a natural reserve with limited entry and you need to book it in advance (EUR 11 per person). You get a helmet and an introduction to the hike. The hike takes about three hours round trip. We were not sure if it was the season, but the waterfall at the turning point that was advertised as tour highlight was very disappointing. Spent the afternoon at Playa del Duque (better beach).
-
Day 4 (2022-03-07) Visited San Cristóbal de La Laguna, climbed the church tower. Drove to Anaga mountain range. Visited Camino viejo al Pico del Inglés. Old and mystical road to Pico del Inglés carved in the mountain. We had to make a reservation for our hike since this should guarantee the conservation of fragile Anaga nature reserve ecosystem. Our hike was from Cruz de Afur to La Asomada. There are only 20 people per day allowed, free reservation. Visited the viewpoint Mirador Pico del Inglés. Drove to Roque de las Bodegas and had lunch in Restaurante La Ola (highly recommended). The late afternoon we spent at Playa de las Teresitas.
-
Day 5 (2022-03-08) Started our journey to the Teide at 6 a.m. and arrived at the trailhead Sendero de Montaña Blanca at around 7 a.m. (~2350m). As the parking lot was already full, we left our car at Mirador El Tabonal Negro. For the hike we had to make a reservation several months in advance. It was a sunny day with a clear blue sky. We ascended about 1200m in 6 hours with breaks. At the cable car station at 3530m a park ranger told us that we weren’t allowed to visit the summit at 3715m as the weather was not good (whatever that meant) and we didn’t have a high alpine pass. Disappointed we went back down with the cable car. The hike is very varied but also tedious. We highly recommend it. We spend the afternoon at Playa de Las Vistas.
-
Day 6 (2022-03-09) Visited the ghost town Abades that was build as a leprosy station but never used due to medical advancements. Drove to Anaga and hiked the second time in the nature reserve at El Pijaral. Spent the afternoon at Playa de las Teresitas.
-
Day 7 (2022-03-10) Peeked at the Observatorio del Teide. Made the La Caldera hike in Orotava Valley that offered us a stunning view to Pico del Teide. Drove to La Orotava and visited its botanical garden.
-
Day 8 (2022-03-11) Took a short one hour hike at Sendero Roques de García. Made a second hike at Sendero del Chinyero, the islands youngest volcano. Spent the eventing at Playa del Duque.
-
Day 9 (2022-03-12) Had a self-made beach breakfast in El Médano. Hiked to the summit of Montaña Roja. Drove to the Teno massif and hiked there.
-
Day 10 (2022-03-13) Hiked at Malpaís de Güímar with thousands of large cacti. Drove to El Médano to have Paella for dinner at Brisas Del Médano with a beautiful view to Montaña Roja.
-
Day 11 (2022-03-14) Took a short morning swim at Playa La Tejita and flew back to Germany.
